Internship Goals

Professional Goals
    Learning more about banking and investments and how they affect the financial service industry

•   Engage every morning in hour-long worldwide company conference call.

•  Interview employees to find out more about how they invest their clients’ money and what strategies they use to accomplish their investment goals most efficiently in such a volatile industry.

•   Ask employees for projects and task that I can take part in to help gain a better understanding of how domestic and international banks affect their accounts.

    Learning about client interfacing and relations in the banking industry

•   To obtain this goal I would need to continue to perform with a professional and capable demeanor to be able to be trusted with client accounts.

•  I need to show more interest in attending client meetings and assisting in client affairs. It could be possible for me to see this goal achieved in my 4th week (next week).

    Setting and accomplishing financial goals for clients

•    Like goal 2, I am interested in managing client accounts and finding what clients want to achieve growth-wise through investment strategies.
•   I first need to accomplish goal 2, to begin to take on a more interactive role with clients, and employees that manage client accounts.

•   This goal can be attained but will likely come towards the end of my internship because of how confidential client accounts are.

Academic Goals
    Applying knowledge gained from economics and business courses.

•   In assignments given to me regarding stock analysis and risk assessment I hope to be able to show my understanding of global markets and trends that will effect the stock prices and shares of companies and commodities worldwide.​
•   I have already been assigned tasks that required applying my knowledge to projects.
•   I hope to receive more because I felt how beneficial it was to know I analyzed the companies and commodities correctly for my employer. To obtain this goal I would need to ask the employees at UBS for more research assignments and show that I am interested in them.

    Learning more about international banking and applying my experiences abroad

•   Through taking international economics courses I really excelled at understanding foreign countries and their banking systems. As well, my year long experience in Europe my junior year opened up my knowledge of foreign banking and international transactions.
•   This goal can be achieved through projects employees can assign me regarding clients with foreign accounts. I have heard the employees talk about them.
•   To learn more and achieve this goal I would need to express interest in international banking. Hopefully I will find a way to communicate this next week.

    Learning about finance in company seminars

•  Attend every seminar hosted at lunch time in the company board room. These are about hour long seminars and occur at least three times a week. I have achieved this goal of attending the seminars.
•   To further my experience in the seminars I hope eventually become more comfortable with the company's abbreviations and terminology. In order to do this I need to continue taking notes and look them up after the seminar online. So far I feel that I am learning more.
•   When I am able to understand what everyone is talking about then I can begin to participate in discussions. This would be a big goal for me because if the employees see me talking then they will know that I understand and will be able to be trusted with more assignments.

Personal Goals
    Gain more self confidence

•   This goal has been a life long goal for me. Sometimes I feel that I am self confident but a lot of the time I feel that I let my self confidence fall when I compare myself to others.
•   In a prestigious work environment like UBS I feel nervous knowing how important the people are that work here. I have got more comfortable as the weeks continue but I still feel sometimes that I get uncomfortable. As my speech teacher said "no one knows when you are nervous when speaking", but I would still like to feel comfortable inside and know that I have accomplished many things that I should be proud of.
•   To accomplish this I must build self efficacy and acknowledge that I only have a short time here and must make the best of it everyday.

    Be a better public speaker and conversationalist

•   Another goal that I have struggled with and would love to accomplish one day.
•   I do love talking and speaking when I feel comfortable. In order to achieve this goal I need to achieve my first personal goal.
•   When I find self confidence and become more comfortable in the office I am sure my knowledge base and experience will be able to be communicated.

    Find out more about what I am interested in and not interested in

•   Hopefully my experience at UBS will be able to let me know more about myself and my future goals. If I do not like wealth management and financial consulting I still hope to expand my knowledge base and understand it.
•  Weeding out career paths is important for me because I find myself wanting to do so many things in life.
•  In order to know if my interest lies in UBS and other companies like it, I need to continue to fully apply myself to my assignments and find what I do well at.
